Club History
Cobham Sports changed their name from Flight Refuelling FC at the start of the 2001/02 season to reflect the title of the Sports and Social Club which they are associated with at their Merley Park home in north Poole.
The football club was founded in 1949 and worked their way up through the Dorset League before joining the Combination in 1958 although they only initially remained in the league for two seasons.
Flights rejoined the Combination in 1977 and made an immediate impact by lifting the league title in their first season back. The club has not been able to emulate that success since, but were runners-up three times in four years during the late 80’s & early 90’s (1987/88, 1989/90 & 1990/91) and in that period finished seven consecutive seasons in the top six.
The club have won the Combination Cup three times, in 1979/80, 1982/83 and 1990/91 and have also been runners-up twice. Flights were also regular entrants to the FA Vase before ground restrictions were updated and their best season was when they took Abington Town to a first round replay in 1983-84.
Looking forward to 14/15, we have recruited a new Reserve Team manager and secured a place for this team in the Premier Division of the Bournemouth FA Haywood Saturday League.
